Freelancing and the Rest of Life

I enjoy being a freelance writer; it means that I can organize my day in whatever way suits me best; providing the writing gets done. There are always days when you don't feel up to writing but if a deadline is looming then you have to push through those feelings.

The problem with working from home as a freelance writer is that the rest of life can sometimes get in the way of work. If you are at home people automatically assume that you have the time to entertain visitors, deal with non-work related phone calls, and take in their parcels. Divesting them of this misconception of what it's like to work from home is often an impossible task. This is when freelance writing can become a chore because you end up working half the night to finish a project on time - wouldn't want to be doing anything else though.
